Certified Seed Oats

Wisconsin Certified Seed

Home Oat Seed

    Wisconsin Certified Seed

In the production of Wisconsin Certified seed, care is taken to protect varietal purity and to provide seed of sound mechanical quality. This is done through the following procedures:

Wisconsin Certified seed is produced directly from certified Foundation seed stocks supplied to the seed producers each year by the University of Wisconsin College of Agricultural and Life Sciences or other certified Foundation seed stock sources.

Seed production fields are inspected for varietal purity, isolation and freedom from severe weed problems. The seed, after conditioning, is sampled and laboratory tested for varietal and mechanical purity and germination.

Each bag of seed, which meets certification standards, is tagged with an official Certified seed label.

Esker 2020

  • Wisconsin Certified Oat
  • Esker 2020 was released by the University of Wisconsin Madison in 2019.
  • Improved version of Esker oats with superior yield potential, test weight and disease resistance
  • It is a high yielding oat line with performance in the top 10% for yield in the Midwest.
  • Medium maturity, medium tall plant
  • Very good crown rust resistanceEsker Oats

Forage Plus

  • Forage Plus Oats is a high yielding forage oat developed at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
  • Forage Plus Oats has very high dry matter yield, acceptable forage quality and relatively low crude protein percentage.
  • During the early stages of development, Forage Plus grows slowly, which allows the alfalfa to get a good start before Forage Plus begins competing with the alfalfa.
  • Forage Plus Oats are a late-maturing oat.
  • Forage Plus Oats also has excellent crown rust resistance.  Recommended cutting time is at early heading when the first spikelets are just beginning to emerge from the boot.  Cutting can be made up to a week prior to heading, with a reduced, but still competitive dry matter yield.  It is the ideal heifer and dry cow feed.
  • Forage Plus Oats should be harvested for maximum yield and quality at boot stage development.  Harvesting to early will decrease yield but improves feed quality.

Antigo

  • Wisconsin Certified Oat
  • Excellent test weight, being the single best variety in most trials with 40 and 42 lbs/bushel in the 2016 and 2017 Wisconsin State Trials and 39, 37, and 38 lbs/bushel in the regional Midwestern UEOPN trials during 2016, 2015, and 2014, respectively.
  • High yielding oats variety with 106 bushels/acre in the 3 year multi-location Wisconsin State Trials (2014, 2016, 2017). Average yield in the regional Midwestern UEOPN trials was 102, 127, 139 bushels/acre during 2016, 2015, 2014 respectively.
  • Early maturing variety with heading date 1 day later than Badger and 2 days earlier than Esker.
  • Average plant height of 35-38 inches in 2014-2017 Wisconsin State Trials
  • Moderately resistant to crown rust and showed low crown rust infection levels in most trials.
  • Good grain quality properties such as high dehulling efficiency (higher than 96%), an average groat percentage but high groat protein percent, groat protein yield, and groat oil percent
